Pioneers Win Season Finale

The Alfred State men's basketball team went on a 13-0 run to start the game and never gave up the lead as they closed out the 2019-20 season with a 70-62 victory over Franciscan.

The Pioneers led 13-0 after the first five minutes of the game. They led 30-14 at the half after shooting 61.9% and passing out 10 assists. Franciscan was 7 for 25 from the floor and 0 for 12 from three in the 1st half. The Barons got the offense going in the 2nd half and pushed to tie the game. They connected on 47.1% of their shots and hit eight 3-pointers but was never able to get closer than six.

Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) led all scorers with 24 points. He connected on four long 3-pointers on six attempts. Josh Reding (Spencerport) finished with 19 points (10 for 10 from the foul line), five assists, and five rebounds. Donte Jones (Brooklyn Collegiate) and Andrew Allman (Bronx Prep Charter) both chipped in seven.

The Pioneers shot 48.9% (23 for 47) from the floor, 45.5% from three (5 for 11), and 76% from the foul line (19 for 25). 

Joe Schriner led the Barons (10-15, 9-11 AMCC) with 15 points while John Noce added 12. Sean Hickey had eight points and seven assists off the bench. Franciscan shot 39% from the floor (23 for 59), 25.8% from three (8 for 31), and 80% from the foul line (8 for 10).

The Pioneers wrap up the season, their first in the AMCC, with a 7-18 overall record and a 5-15 mark in conference play.
