Men's Basketball Opens up 2022-23 Season

The Alfred State Men's Basketball team battled tough but fell 90-79 to RIT in the season opener for both teams.

RIT built a 15-5 lead in the first seven minutes of the game and held off every Pioneer rally. The Tigers led 46-36 at half and built their largest lead, 67-48, with 12:17 left in the game. ASC continued to battle and cut the lead to 84-77 with just under a minute remaining but could never get any closer.

Paris Jamison (Brooklyn, NY East Side) led four Pioneers in double figures with 22 points. Ryan Rosa (Middletown, NY Middletown) added 16 points, nine rebounds, and six assists while Cody Schneider (Belmont, NY/ Genesee Valley) and Dylan Perry (Kingston, NY/ Kingston) each chipped in 11.

Brock Bowen led RIT with 22 points. Five Tigers finished in double figures.

Alfred State shot 43.3% (26 for 60) from the field, 41.4% (12 for 29) from three, and was 15 for 22 from the foul line. RIT shot 54.1% (33 for 61) from the field, including 66.7% in the 2nd half, shot 61.1% (11 for 18) from three, and was 13 for 18 from the line.

The Pioneers are back in action on Friday when they host day one of the Alfred Classic. Alfred State battles SUNY Poly at 7 p.m. after Alfred University takes on SUNY Canton at 5 p.m.
