Pioneers Win against Rival Houghton

The Alfred State Pioneer Men's Basketball team improves to 2-2 on the season with a victory over Houghton University 83-79. The Pioneers led for most of the game and fought off a late run from the Highlanders to seal the victory.

Tied at 77 with 2 minutes remaining, Dylan Perry (Kingston, NY / Kingston) drew a shooting foul and converted on both free-throws. With Alfred State up by two, a Pioneer defensive stop allowed an Alfred State 30-second timeout. Still up two points, the Blue and Gold capitalized with a Paris Jamison (Brooklyn, NY / East Side) layup putting them up four, all but sealing the win. Houghton called a timeout with 14 seconds remaining to draw up the final play. The Pioneers forced a turnover, and Jamison put in another layup as the time expired.

Dylan Perry had a team-high 20 points on 5-7 shooting. Perry went 2-3 from three and made all eight free-throws he attempted. Two other Pioneers were in double-digits, Cody Schneider (Belmont, NY / Genesee Valley) had 14 points and Paris Jamison tallied 18 points. Schneider also notched eight assists, contributing to big-time baskets late in the game.

Jajuan Preaster was all over the floor for the Highlanders, keeping them in the game as the Pioneers tried to extend their lead. Preaster tallied 32 points, and 12 rebounds accounting for the games lone double-double.

The Alfred State team travels to the Route 20 Classic hosted by SUNY Morrisville and Cazenovia this weekend. They tip-off on Friday, November 18, at 7 p.m. for their first game of the weekend against SUNY Morrisville.
