The #3 ranked Cougars from Genesee CC defeated Alfred State 17-6 in the Pioneers first Region III Western Division contest. The Cougars improve to 7-0 on the year while the blue & gold are 1-4.
Genesee jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the 1st quarter, led 10-1 at half, and 12-2 at the end of three quarters. Alfred scored the first four goals of the 4th quarter but the Cougars scored the games final five goals.
Six different Pioneers found the back of the net. Nate Spoor (Penn Yan), Frank Martin (Whitney Point), Bradley Murdoch (Auburn), Keegan Phalen (East Aurora), Dave Ford (Elmont/Sewanhaka), and Michael Maranga (Rockaway/St. Edmund) all scored while Brandon Griffin (Corning East) passed out two assists. Tim Randall (Churchville Chili) also picked up an assist.
Mike Alessi (Liverpool) made 20 saves for the Pioneers in net.
The Pioneers finish off their season opening six game road trip on Saturday when they travel to Corcoran High School to take on Cayuga CC. Opening face-off is slated for Noon.
