Dominant 2nd Half Leads Pioneers to Victory

The Alfred State lacrosse team trailed 5-3 at halftime but scored 11 of the games 12 goals in the 2nd half to race to a 14-6 victory over Cayuga CC.  The Pioneers end their season opening six game road trip with a 2-4 mark.

Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) had a career day for the blue & gold.  He found the back of the net six times including three goals in the decisive 3rd quarter.  Brandon Griffin (Corning East) chipped in a goal and four assists while Bradley Murdoch (Auburn) and Frank Martin (Whitney Point) each had two goals and an assist.

Nate Spoor (Penn Yan) found the back of the net twice and Dave Ford (Elmont/Sewanhaka) had a goal and an assist.

Mike Alessi (Liverpool) recorded the win in net making eight saves and allowing five 1st half goals in 55:45 between the pipes. Sam Chambers (Memphis/Jordan Elbridge) played the final 4:15.

Alfred led 3-2 after the 1st quarter but the Spartans scored three answered in the 2nd to lead 5-3 at the break.  The Pioneers scored five unanswered goals in the 3rd and then scored five more to start the 4th to seal the victory.

Alfred finally makes their home debut on Wednesday when they start a five-game homestand with a 4 p.m. battle with Finger Lakes CC.
