Late Goal Lifts Pioneers to Victory over D'Youville

Chris Balys (Holley) scored with 47 seconds remaining to break a tie and lift the Alfred State men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over D'Youville on Thursday evening. The victory was the first of the year for the blue & gold.

Alex Armburst gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead at the 39:39 mark of the game when he scored his first of the season after receiving a long crossing pass from Jared Zadzilka. 

The game remained 1-0 until the 77th minute when Ade Adesanya (Brooklyn/Progess) scored after a long pass into the box from Nathan Adamec (Lancaster). Balys scored the game-winner in the final minute when he connected on a header off a loose ball in the corner of the box.

Alfred State held a 20 to 10 shot advantage in the game. Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima) earned his first victory in net by making eight saves. Kyle Dick made eight saves for the Spartans.

The Pioneers head to Mt. Aloysius on Sunday for a 2 p.m. start vs. the Mounties.
