Pioneers and Wildcats Battle to a Tie

Alfred State and SUNY Poly battled for 110 minutes and played to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday evening.

Rajiv Lama got SUNY Poly on the board 2:03 into the contest when he received an over the top ball from Benjamin Alonge. Albert Senyah (Long Island/Central Islip) scored in the 30th minute after a long pass from Justus Hoffmann (Hamburg). The Pioneers held a 7 to 4 shot advantage in the half.

Hoffman scored on a penalty kick in the 59th minute to give Alfred State their first lead of the game. With just under 29 minutes remaining, Jamar Gayle tied it up after getting a cross from Evan Chaires. Neither team could break the tie and the game headed into extra time.

Both teams collected three shots in the 1st OT but couldn't get the game-winner. Neither team got a shot off in the 2nd OT and the game ended in a draw. Alfred State has now played in two OT contests while SUNY Poly has played extra time in four of their five contests (2-0-3).

Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima) made four saves in 110 minutes for the Pioneers while Nathan Laughlin made seven for the Wildcats. Alfred State ended the game with a 20 to 14 shot advantage. 

The Pioneers have a over a week off before completing their seven-game road trip with a contest at Medaille on September 27th (4 p.m.)
