Pioneers Rally Falls Short

The Alfred State men's soccer team couldn't rally all the way back as they fell 2-1 to Penn State Altoona in a AMCC match at Pioneer Stadium.

The Lions got on the board 5:30 into the game when Brant Aughenbaugh scored after grabbing the rebound off of his penalty kick. Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima) was able to make a diving stop on the PK but the ball bounced right back to Aughnbaugh who was able to tap it into the net. Just over seven minutes later, Jon Kadoch made it 2-0 after getting a pass from Jordan Francis. Altoona held a 11 to 5 shot advantage in the 1st half.

7:04 into the 2nd half, Jared Barlow (Penfield) got the Pioneers on the board with his first of the season. David Benson (Clifton Park/Shenendowa) picked up the assist. The Pioneers kept the pressure on the rest of the half, outshooting Altoona 9 to 4, but were unable to get the equalizer.

Coria finished the day with seven saves in net while Tanner Yaw earned the win for the Lions (4-6-1, 2-0 AMCC).

The Pioneers are back in action on Tuesday when they Medaille at 6 p.m.
