Pioneers Fall to Mounties

The Alfred State Men's Soccer team dropped today's contest against Mt. Aloysius 2-1.

The game was affected by heavy wind gusts, blowing from right to left throughout the match. All three goals were scored on the left side of the field.

The first two goals of the match were scored by the Mounties. Both came within a two-minute timespan, the first from Louis Bez. He scored on a free kick, from just outside the box in the 12 minute. In the 14 minute, Rhett Pletcher knocked in his third of the season, putting Mt. Aloysius up 2-0.

After surrendering two goals in the first half, the Pioneers offense gathered momentum quickly. Switching sides of the field and now going with the wind, the offensive attack quickly gained steam. Alfred State took 13 shots, compared to only two in the first half. Riley Warren-Nichols (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) scored in the 53 minute, bringing the Pioneers within one goal.

Thaddeus Grierson (Perry, N.Y. / Perry Central) put together a shutout second half, keeping Alfred State alive, as he tallied six saves in the second half.

The Pioneers are back in action on October 19, at 6 p.m. against Pitt.- Bradford. Alfred State will be celbrating their seniors, in the last home game of the regular season.
