Six From Men's Soccer Named to AMCC All-Conference Teams

The Pioneer Men's Soccer team finished the season in the second round of the AMCC playoffs, falling to Mt. Aloysius. The Mounties went on to win the AMCC Championship and lose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The 2022 All-Conference Team was announced, and six Pioneer athletes found their names on the list.

Andres Mateos was the lone Alfred State player named to the All-Conference first team. The defensive midfielder was a pest all season. His ball-winning ability and forceful offensive attack was not only a focal point for the Pioneers but was noticed by all the teams in the conference. Mateos started all seven conference games and scored one conference goal.

Nuri Sarbudak, Jack Leahy, and Will Bowen were named to the All- Conference second team. Leahy and Bowen manned the Pioneer back-line all season long. Bowen played all seven conference games for Alfred State, and consistently made his presence felt with game-saving tackles. Bowen also took 12 shots and scored a goal in conference play. Leahy came back from injury and had an immediate impact on the Pioneer defense. The sophomore defender played in five conference games and scored a goal, also stopping team's attacks all season long. Nuri Sarbudak was the conference's second highest goal-scorer. With 12 goals and five conference goals, he was a direct contributor to the Pioneers best conference season in program history.

Gavin Rice and Jackson Powers were named to the All-Conference third team. Rice's physical play on the Pioneer attacking line proved difficult for defenders to handle. He started all 7 conference matches and had a goal and an assist. Powers appeared in all seven conference games and started in six of them. His midfield presence was felt all season, as he contributed three assists and a goal. His play kept growing throughout the season, peaking late in the year when the Pioneers needed it most.
