Pioneers Claim Top Spot in Home Invitational

The Alfred State men's swimming and diving team claimed the title in their home invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers won eight events and scored 505 points in the event.

Tim Olin (Perry) led the way by winning three individual events. He won the 100 back in 58.65, the 50 free in 23.23, and the 200 back in 2:14.33. He was also part of the 200 medley relay team with Olin, Nate Miller (Gananda), Ethan Dale (Lock Haven), and Anthony Kahwaty (Jefferson Township, NJ) that finished 2nd (1:47.56) and the 200 free relay team of Ryan McDowell (Gananda), Miller and Ryan Brophy (Midlakes) that was also 2nd (1:35.30.

Austin Eckrich (Churchville Chili) won the 1650 free in 19:17.36, Kahwaty won the 100 breast, and McDowell won the 100 fly in 59.65.

In the diving competition, Austin Miller (Hornell) took both the 1m (351.40) and the 3m (392.05) while Jackson Teboe (Falconer) was 2nd in each (291.45 in 1m and 310.50 in 3m).

Dale was 2nd in the 200 fly (2:11.11), 2nd in the 200 breast (2:28.79), and 2nd in the 400 IM (4:41.78). Eckrich was 2nd in the 500 free (5:32.11), Patrick McFadden (Hopewell) was 2nd in the 1650 free (19:36.69), Alexander Gargano (Hilton) was 2nd in the 100 breast (1:09.97), Brophy was 2nd in the 200 back (2:38.35)

The Pioneers finished ahead of Genesee CC (434) and SUNY Delhi (181).

Miller and Teboe will head to Ithaca tomorrow to compete in Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational while the rest of the team will begin training for the 2019 AMCC Championships.
