The Alfred State Athletic Department unveiled the 2019-20 All Newcomer Team. This group of student-athletes have made a large impact on their specific team and exhibited good character in their first year as a Pioneer.
Seven Alfred State winter and spring athletes have been named to the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team. All sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the team. These individuals are selected by vote of their teammates.
73 student-athletes have earned AMCC All-Academic team honors for their work in the classroom. 44 members of this group were named peak performers for having a cumulative GPA of over 3.5 including ten that have 4.0 GPA's.
A pair of Alfred Sate divers and a pair of baseball players have earned AMCC Athlete of the Week honors. Leaha Langerman (Wayland Cohocton) and Austin Miller (Hornell) were named Divers of the Week while Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) was named player of the week and Andrew Santobuono (Franklin/Unatego) was named pitcher of the week.
Alfred State senior Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) finished 2nd overall and repeated as the AMCC Champion in the 400 IM to highlight day two of competition at the 2020 Allegheny Empire Championships held at the Webster Aquatic Center.
The Alfred State swimming & diving team heads to the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center this week hoping to make waves. The Pioneer men enter the championship meet with an 8-2 dual meet record while the women were 6-5 under first year head coach Mike Smiechowski.
Austin Miller (Hornell) established new school records on both diving boards as Alfred State split a tri-match at Nazareth. They defeated Utica 146-56 but fell 142-92 to the hosts in the short course meter format meet.
The Alfred State swimming & diving team competed this weekend at the Florida International Sprint Invitational. The event featured athletes from FIU, Purdue, Binghamton, and a variety of NCAA DIII schools.
Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) and Matt Walker (Kenmore West) helped lead the Alfred State men's swimming team to their third straight dual meet victory. The Pioneers earned a 136-112 AMCC win over Penn State Altoona.
