Swimming & Diving Ready for Championships

The Alfred State swimming & diving team heads to the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center this week hoping to make waves. The Pioneer men enter the championship meet with an 8-2 dual meet record while the women were 6-5 under first year head coach Mike Smiechowski.

Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood), Matt Walker (Kenmore West), and Austin Miller (Hornell) will be key to the men's success this week.

  • Perry is ranked 2nd in the 100 back (52.82), 2nd in the 200 back (1:56.54), and 6th in the 200 free (1:46.53)
  • Walker enters the meet ranked 3rd in the 200 IM (1:59.37), 3rd in the 400 IM (4:19.78), 4th in the 200 breast (2:12.53), and 8th in the 500 free (4:54.41).
  • Miller enters the championships as the highest point earner on the 3m board (484.45) and the 1m board (440.80).

Senior Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA), junior Nate Miller (Gananda), and junior Anthony Kahwaty (Jefferson Township, NJ) will also be counted on to score points in individual events and relays.

  • Dale is ranked 6th in the 200 fly (2:03.58), 7th in the 400 IM (4:26.24), and 12th in the 200 IM (2:05.52).
  • Miller is ranked 5th in the 100 fly (54.35), 5th in the 100 breast (1:02.32), and 14th in the 100 free (50.40).
  • Kahwaty is ranked 9th in the 200 breast (2:21.64).

The men's 200 medley relay team is ranked 4th (1:38.59), the 800 free relay 5th (7:20.11), the 400 free relay team 5th (3:18.21), the 200 free relay 6th (1:30.64), and the 400 medley relay 6th (3:43.19).

On the women's side Mikaela Snayczuk (Pioneer) and Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) are expected to lead the way.

  • Snayczuk is ranked 8th in the 100 breast (1:12.21), 9th in the 100 fly (1:05.08), and 15th in the 100 free (59.47).
  • Stevens is ranked 2nd in the 1m diving competition (351.75) and 2nd in the 3m (368.45). She is also ranked 21st in the 50 free (27.61)

Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) is ranked 9th in the 100 back (1:07.09) and 11th in the 200 back (2:24.46). Alina Kisluk (Hamburg) is ranked 19th in the 1650 free (21:01.03), 21st in the 500 free (5:56.45), and 25th in the 200 free (2:14.07). Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) is ranked 3rd on both the 3m (361.65) and the 1m boards (340.70).

The women's 800 free relay is ranked 3rd (8:17.69), the 200 free relay team is 4th (1:45.87), the 400 free relay is 4th (3:50.12), the 200 medley relay is 7th (1:58.25), and the 400 medley relay 8th (4:23.42)

The meet features ten schools, six from the AMCC and four from the Empire 8. The teams are competing for overall accolades along with individual conference awards.
