Pioneers win home finale

The Alfred State men's swimming and diving team won 14 of the 16 events as they won their sixth dual meet of the season, 179-67 over Nazareth. With the victory the Pioneers have not been defeated at home since January of 2020.

The 200 medley relay team set the tone for the day with a victory in the first event. The team of Westin Perry (Hartsville, NY/Canisteo Greenwood), Stuart Yates (Naples, NY/Naples), Kellen Fletcher (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington), and Jazz Widney (Tulsa, OK/Jenks) won in 1:36.87.

The quartet also each won a pair of individual events. Perry won the 100 back in 52.89 and the 200 back in 2:04.14, Yates won the 100 breast in 1:00.98 and the 200 breast in 2:24.88, Fletcher won the 200 fly in 2:20.23 and the 200 IM in 2:04.62., and Widney won the 200 free in 1:49.25 and the 100 fly in 55.49.

Avenn Toledo (San Diego, CA/San Marcos) won the 1,000 free in 10:34.91, Luca Aldewerld (Cleveland, OH/N. Royalton) won the 50 free in 21.82, and Conor Compton (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) won both the 1m (286.80) and the 3m diving competitions (336.0). 

The 200 free relay team of Perry, Yates, Aiden Ferguson (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo), and Widney capped the day with a victory in 1:28.25.

Jack Friedah (York, PA/West York) was 2nd in both the 200 IM (2:08.69) and 2nd in the 100 fly (55.64), Ferguson was 2nd in the 100 back (55.96), and Derek Mrachko (Ann Arbor, MI/AA Skyline) 

The Pioneers are back in action next Saturday at Harkwick for a 1 p.m. meet.
