Cross Country to Compete at NCAA Mideast Regional

The Alfred State cross country team travels to Center Valley, PA this weekend to compete at the NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by DeSales University. Both the men and the women are coming off 2nd place finishes at the ACAA Championships two weekends ago.

The freshmen duo of Julia Russell (Candor) and Veronica Dailey (Addison) have led the way for the women. The pair have been the consistently the top two finishers for Alfred State in all six of the team's meets this season. Russell won the ACAA title while Dailey finished 3rd. Katherine Watkins (Addison), Katherine Frascella (Franklinville), and Molly Heaphy (West Hempstead/Long Island Lutheran) rounded out the top five at the ACAA's. They will compete versus athletes from 59 different institutions.

Shawn Rutledge (Watkins Glen), Matthew Connolly (Elmira Notre Dame), Austin Demberg (Westtown/Minisink Valley), Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post), and Ryan Lohr (West Seneca West) ran to top 15 finishes at the ACAA Championships and will look to battle for strong finishes in a field that features athetes from 57 different schools.

Top team and individual finishers will qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships which will be held in Winneconne, WI at the Lake Breeze Golf Club on November 17th.

This is the first time student-athletes at Alfred State have had an opportunity to compete in a NCAA regional meet.
