Pioneer Men Finish 3rd at AMCC Championships

The Alfred State men's cross country team had several personal bests as the Pioneers finished 3rd out of nine teams at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships held at Penn State Behrend on Saturday.

Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) was the top finisher for the Pioneers on the 8k course. He finished 10th in 26:56.8 (5:25/mile). Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post) was 17th (28:32.1), Matt Connolly (Elmira Notre Dame) was 23rd (29:24.3), Cooper Buckley (Wellsville) was 24th (29:27.5), and Austin Miller (Hornell) was 28th (29:53.5) to round out the top five finishers.

Franciscan led by overall winner Liam Galligan took home the team title with a score of 26. Penn State Behrend was 2nd with 34 followed by Alfred State (91). Pitt Greensburg was 4th (158), La Roche 5th (166), Hilbert 6th (170), D'Youville 7th (175), Medaille 8th (204), and Mt. Aloysius 9th (211).

This was the first year that Alfred State had competed at the AMCC Championships.

A contingent of Pioneers will prepare for the NCAA Mideast Regionals in two weeks.
