Lady Pioneers Split DH with Jamestown Olean

The Alfred State softball team played their first games in the Northern portion of their season and split a pair with Jamestown Olean.  The Pioneers won the opener 10-2 but fell 18-13 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Alfred scored four runs in the 5th and four more in the 6th to break open a close contest.  Claire Hartman (Alden) was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI while Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) was 2 for 3 with three runs scored.  Rachel Slentz (Edmeston) drove in two.  Clarissa Swain (Dansville) allowed six hits and two runs in six innings of work to earn the victory.

The nightcap featured 31 runs, 34 hits, and 11 walks.  Each team scored in six of their seven at-bats.  The Jaguars used a six-run 2nd and a four-run 3rd to erase an early deficit and take the lead for good.

Hartman was 3 for 5 on the day while Slentz was 2 for 3.  Stephanie Pierce (Sherman) drove in two runs.

The blue & gold (3-11, 2-5 Region III Division III) return to action on Saturday when they host Erie CC at 1 p.m.
