Lady Pioneers Tripped up by Geneseo

The Alfred State softball team was tripped up SUNY Geneseo in a pair of games on Friday evening.  The Knights earned 4-3 and 10-1 victories to improve to 12-10 on the year.

Alfred State took a 2-0 lead in the opener in the 4th behind a RBI single by Kristen Jackson (Keshequa) and a RBI ground out by Lynn Wood (Westfield Academy).  Geneseo answered back in the 5th, with three unearned runs to grab the lead.  They added an insurance run in the 6th to make it 4-2.  The Lady Pioneers loaded the bases in the bottom of the 6th and made it 4-3 on a bases loaded walk to Brooke Gustin (Wellsville).  The Knights got out of the bases loaded jam without any more damage and were able to get a 1-2-3 7th inning to seal the victory.

Stormi Kruger (Medina) was 2 for 3 for the Lady Pioneers while Ashlynn Nickerson (Friendship) pitched well but took the loss.  Nickerson allowed just one earned run in seven innigns of work.

In the nightcap, neither team could get on the board until the 6th inning. In the 6th, Elise Porreca connected on a RBI triple to get the Knights the lead.  Geneseo added to their lead with a nine-run 7th inning that featured 14 batters, nine runs, and six hits.  Trisha Shingleton (Byron Bergen) walked and scored in the bottom of the 7th to account for the Lady Pioneers run.

Geneseo's Katie Muller earned the win with a no-hitter.  She allowed three walks and one run while striking out nine.

The Lady Pioneers have the weekend off but return to action on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader vs. Clarkson.
