Bats Explode in Doubleheader Sweep

The Alfred State softball team scored 29 runs and collected 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep of SUNY Delhi. The Lady Pioneers won the opener 8-0 and then won 21-8 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Alfred State scored three in the 1st, one in the 2nd, three in the 3rd, and one in the 4th as they cruised to victory. Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene) tossed a one-hitter and was 2 for 3 with a RBI at the plate. Hanrahan walked three and struck out ten batters.

Claire Hartman (Alden) was 2 for 2 with a RBI, Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) was 2 for 3, and Stormi Kruger (Medina) hit a two-run homer in the 3rd inning.

The Lady Pioneers scored eight in the 1st and 10 in the 2nd to take full control of the nightcap. Eleven different players recorded hits and six collected multiple hits.

Kruger led the way with a 4 for 5, 3 RBI day. She hit her 2nd homer of the day and the season, a two-run shot in the 3rd. Kelsey Lewis (Johnson City) was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI, Allison Gibson (Arkport) was 2 for 3 with 5 RBI, including a three-run homer in the 2nd, and Renee Stanford (Canisteo Greenwood) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Hartman finished the day 2 for 4 with 4 RBI.

Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) earned the win on the mound and was 2 for 2 at the plate.

The blue & gold return to action on Monday when they travel to Geneseo for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
