Alfred State and Canton Split for Second Straight Day

For the second straight afternoon, Alfred State and SUNY Canton split a doubleheader at Pioneer Park. The Pioneers won the opener 12-4 while the Kangaroos won the nightcap 7-6 in eight innings.

The Lady Pioneers scored five runs in the 1st, three in the 2nd, three in the 4th, and scored the game ending run in the 5th. Canton scored three in the 3rd and one in the 5th. Alfred State collected 12 hits including five extra base hits in the contest.

The 4-5-6 combo of Rebecca Hanrahan (Greene), Stormi Kruger (Medina), and Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA) was 8 for 8 with 9 RBI. Hanrahan was 3 for 3 with 4 RBI, Kruger was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI, and Mosier was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Taylor McCarthy (Watkins Glen) earned the win with five innings of work. She allowed seven hits and three earned runs while walking two.

Alfred State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the 1st inning before Canton rallied for two in the 2nd, one in the 4th, and took their first lead with three in the 5th. The Pioneers came right back and tied it back up with two in the 5th. 

Neither team could plate a run in the 6th or 7th and the contest went to extra innings and the international tie breaker. The Kangaroos were able to plate a run on a RBI single by Stefanie Miller in their half of the 8th. Alfred State moved a runner to 3rd with one out but couldn't score the tying run.

Kruger was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI on the day, Mosier was 2 for 4 with a RBI, and Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) was 2 for 4. 

Kaleigh Foran led the Lady Kangaroos with a 4 for 5, 4 RBI day. Shannon Dowling was 2 for 3 and Miller was 2 for 5 with the game winning RBI.

The two teams will meet again next weekend for another four-game series with the Kangaroos.

The blue & gold continue a busy stretch of games on Monday when they host Penn College at 3:30 p.m. for a doubleheader.
