Lady Pioneers Split Final Day in Florida

The Alfred State softball team wrapped up their annual trip to the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, FL with a split. The Lady Pioneers (3-9) defeated Knox 8-4 but fell 13-0 to Brockport.

In the opener vs. Knox, the Lady Pioneers collected 12 hits and put together a three-run 1st, a three-run 3rd, and a 2-run 5th inning.

In the 1st, Claire Hartman (Eden) registered a sac fly, Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) had a RBI single and scored on a wild pitch to erase the Prairie Fire's early 2-0 lead. Jillian Kahn (Dansville) and Amanda Rockefeller (Bolivar Richburg) hit back-to-back RBI triples in the 3rd to give the Lady Pioneers a 6-2 lead. After Knox cut the lead to 6-4 with two unearned runs in the 5th, the Lady Pioners took advantage of three errors and got a RBI single by Kelsey Lewis (Johnson City) to add two insurance runs.

Allison Gibson (Arkport) continued to swing a hot bat with a 3 for 4 day. O'Keefe was 2 for 3 with a RBI and Rockefeller was 2 for 4 with a RBI.

On the mound, Tonia Tinker (Alfred Almond) tossed a complete game nine-hitter to earn her first collegiate victory. She allowed two earned runs walked four and struck out four.

Brockport (9-2) used four-run 1st inning and a six-run 4th inning to earn the victory in the nightcap. The blue & gold were held to just three singles in the contest, Gibson, Rockefeller, and Trisha Shingleton (Byron Bergen).

The Lady Pioneers take the field next on March 31st when they host Penn College in a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader.
