Saints Take Two from Pioneers

St. Lawrence took both games vs. Alfred State in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at Pioneer Park. The Saints won the opener 9-0 and then won a 8-7, eight inning contest.

The Saints rode a seven run 2nd inning to the victory in game one. Emma Gailey made it stand up holding the Pioneers to just two singles in the game (Katie Jackson & Courtney McDaniel).

Mylea Mann was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI to lead the Saints offense which took adantage of 10 Pioneer walks.

The nightcap was a back and forth affair. Stormi Kruger (Medina) had a RBI ground out in the 1st and a RBI single in the 3rd to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. St. Lawrence scored three in the 4th to take their first lead of the game but Katie Jackson (Troy, PA) tied it up with a RBI ground out.

After the Saints took a 4-3 lead in the 5th, Lura O'Keefe (Allegany Limestone) gave the blue & gold a 6-4 lead with a bases clearing three-RBI triple down the left field line. St. Lawrence answered with three of their own in the 6th but Kruger tied the game up at 7-7 with a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.

Neither team was able to cross the plate in the 7th but the Saints scored on a two-out error in the 8th to grab the lead. The Pioneers had the tying run at 3rd with one out in the bottom half of hte inning but could not tie it.

Kruger finished 3 for 3 with 3 RBI, O'Keefe was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, and Jackson was 2 for 5 with a RBI.

The middle of the Saints line-up, Mann, Emma Reakes, and Adrianna Schlickenmayer combined to be 8 for 14 in the nightcap.

The Lady Pioneers continue their busy stretch of games on Monday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Medaille.
