Barber and Kruger Named USCAA All-American

Alfred State softball players Melissa Barber (Nassau/Catholic Central) and Stormi Kruger (Medina) have both been named USCAA All-Americans. Barber was a 2nd team selection while Kruger earned honorable mention honors.

Barber, a sophomore catcher, led the Pioneers with a .451 batting average (41 for 91). She collected six doubles, drove in 16, and scored 26 runs. She collected hits in 25 of the Pioneers 28 games and had 11 multi-hit games.

She had a season high four hits (4 for 4) in game one vs. Elmira and collected a season high 5 RBI vs. Wisconsin Stout while the team played in Myrtle Beach, SC. Barber had an 8-game and a 12-game hitting streak during the season.

Kruger, a senior shortstop, finished the season with a .400 batting average (36 for 90). She collected four doubles, a triple, 20 RBI, and scored 19 runs. After a slump in the middle of the season, Kruger finished the season collecting hits in 12 of the teams last 13 games. On the year, she had 12 multi-hit games.

In the second game vs. Elmira she had a season high four hits and four RBI. In her last doubleheader of her career vs. Nazareth, Kruger was 7 for 10 with 3 RBI.

This is the fourth straight season Kruger has earned USCAA All-American honors. She is the first Alfred State athlete to accomplish the honor. Earlier in the year, Kruger became the first Pioneer athlete to earn USCAA All-American honors in two sports (soccer).

The USCAA All-American team was announced during the awards ceremony at the USCAA World Series in Akron, OH.
