Trio of Pioneers Earn AD3I Postseason Honors

A trio of Alfred State softball players have earned All-Independent honors in an announcement recently made by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I). Senior shortstop Stormi Kruger (Medina) and sophomore cather Melissa Barber (Nassau/Catholic Central) were 1st team selections while second basemen Annie Corrao (Grand Island) was named 2nd team.

Kruger finished a stellar four-year career with a .400 (36 for 90) batting average this season. She collected four doubles, a triple, and 20 RBI. She scored 19 runs, finished with a .443 on-base percentage, and a .467 slugging percentage. Earlier she was named USCAA All-American for the 4th straight season.

Barber adds the AD3I honor after earning USCAA 2nd team All-American and honorable mention All-ECAC North. Barber led the team with a .451 average (41 for 91), a .516 slugging percentage, and 26 runs scored. She also added six doubles, 16 RBI, and had a .510 on-base percentage.

Corrao appeared in and started in 21 games this season. She hit .319 (23 for 72) for the year with two doubles, a triple, seven RBI, and scored 20 runs.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 13 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition.
