Softball Splits with Mount Aloysius on Senior Day

The Alfred State softball team (10-22, 6-10 AMCC) split with the Mount Aloysius Mounties (17-12, 10-6 AMCC) at Alfred State College on Saturday afternoon.

Before the game the Pioneers honored their three seniors; Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport), Brianna Dittman (Brooklyn/James Madison) and Skylar Shaulis (Ovid, NY/South Seneca).

Game one: ASC 6, MAC 4

The Pioneers recorded 6 runs, 14 hits, 6 RBIs and 1 error.

The Mounties recorded 4 runs, 9 hits, 4 RBIs and 1 error.

Pioneer Leaders:

Sarah Boyce (Cortland) went 4-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run.

Felecia Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.

Faith Capito (Cuba, NY/Portville) and Nicole Youngberg (Falconer) had 2 RBIs each.

Lauryn Engle (Elba) and Skylar Shaulis (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) went 2-for-3 with 1 run.

How it Happened:

The Mounties scored one in the first and one in the third.

In the bottom of the fourth Shaulis singled to right field to plate Felecia Capito.

Mt. Aloysius scored another in the top of the sixth.

The Pioneers scored five in the bottom of the sixth. Boyce singled up the middle to being home Engle, Youngberg singled to right field to bring in Boyce and Shaulis scored, Faith Capito singled to right field to plate Youngberg and Wonica.

The Mounties scored one more in the seventh but the Pioneer defense held them off for the two-run win.

Pioneer Pitching:

Fisher (W, 7-10) pitched 7 innings and allowed 9 hits, 4 runs, walked 2 and struck out 4. She faced 33 batters and threw 106 pitches, 75 were strikes.

Game two: ASC 1, MAC 5

The Pioneers recorded 1 run, 4 hits, 1 RBIs and 1 error.

The Mounties recorded 5 runs, 13 hits, 5 RBIs and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Kaylee Griffith (Niagara Falls) went 2-for-4.

Faith Capito went 1-for-2 with 1 RBI.

How it Happened:

Mt. Aloysius scored one in the top of the third.

In the bottom of the third Boyce scored off a sacrifice fly from Faith Capito.

The Mounties scored one in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Pioneer Pitching:

Abby Beidel (Newville, PA/Big Spring) (L, 3-12) pitched 7 innings and allowed 13 hits, 5 runs, walked 1 and struck out 3. She faced 36 batters and threw 113 pitches, 68 were strikes.
