Swimming Dives into New Season

The Alfred State swimming team dove into the 2012-13 season at the Genesee CC Harvest Invitational. The men's team 3rd while the women finished 4th.

The Pioneers won three relays and three individual events in the meet that featured athletes from five schools.

The men's 200 medley relay team of Troy Wagner (Niagara Wheatfield), Dylan Tiefenthaler (Owego Free), Sanjay Raman (Owego Free), and Josh McDowell (Wayland Cohocton) won in 1:49.78. The same quartet won the 200 free relay in 1:38.24. The women's 200 free relay team of Christine Dodd (Windsor), Karla Carson (Franklinville), Christine Reil (Niagara Wheatfield), and Danielle Thone (Wappingers Falls/Roy Ketcham) won the 200 free relay in 1:56.68.

Wagner was 2nd in the 1,000 free (12:34.41) and 3rd in the 500 free (6:00.55), Raman was 2nd in the 50 free (23.55) and the 100 butterfly (56.23), Kalem Chambliss (Alfred Almond) was 3rd in the 100 free (57.53) and 4th in the 100 breast (1:18.17), and Jake Drew (Victor) was 4th in the 100 backstroke (1:07.73)

On the women's side, Dodd was 2nd in the 200 free (2:18.01) and the 100 backstroke (1:10.63).

The men scored 252 points on the day while the women scored 136.

Alfred opens up WNYAC action on Wednesday when they travel back to Genesee CC to take on the Cougars and Mercyhurst North East starting at 6 p.m.
