Pioneers Excel in Home Invite

The Alfred State swimming and diving team had a big day as they took the top spot at the Pioneer Invitational. The blue & gold won 19 of the 32 contested events.

The Pioneer diving team started the day off fast with great performances in competition held at Alfred University.

  • Nick Beach (Canandaigua) won both the 1m and 3m diving competition. He scored 415.43 in the 1m and then scored 425.93 in the 3m. Both established new NCAA era school records.
  • Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) won the women's competition in both the 1m and 3m. She scored 321.90 in the 3m and set a new NCAA Era school record and won the 1m competition with 329.33 points. Stevens also won the 100 fly in 1:22.84.

Alley Sell (Hanover, PA) was a double winner. She set a new NCAA Era in winning the 500 free (5:52.43) and won the 100 breast (1:12.81). Myriah Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) won the 200 fly (3:09.04), Kaileigh Lehman (Lowville) won the 50 free (27.94), Elizabeth Drake (Lansing) won the 100 free (1:02.73), and Josey Brewer (Letchworth) won the 200 breast (3:00.51). Drake also set a new record in the 1650 free (21:21.53).

The women's 200 medley relay team of Perry, Sell, Sarah Stevens (Wellsvile), and Rachel Caltagirone (Tonawanda) won in 2:06.02 while the 800 free relay team of Sell, Lehman, Sarah Stevens, and Perry won in 9:42.86.

The women scored 527.5 points followed by Genesee CC (220.5).

On the men's side Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) was a double winner. He won the 200 fly (2:11.88) and 100 fly (58.33). Kyle Sporysz (Cuba Rushford) won the 50 free (23.23), Tim Olin (Perry) won the 100 free (52.26), and Patrick McFadden (Midlakes) won the 200 breast (2:51.88)

The 200 medley relay team of Olin, Dale, Ryan McDowell (Gananda), and Sporysz won in 1:46.13 and the 800 free team of Dale, Tyler La Flamm (Mexico), Sporysz, and Mason Sparks (Royalton Hartland) finished 2nd in 8:32.22.

The men scored 584 points and finished ahead of Genesee CC (373) and SUNY Delhi (199).

The Pioneers dive right back into the pool on Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford for a AMCC clash with the Panthers.
