Curran Wins ECAC Pole Vault Title
Zach Curran (Williamson) won the pole vault as Alfred State competed on day two of the ECAC Championships. Curran and the Pioneer men finished 9th overall out of 32 teams that scored with 29 points.
Curran, who entered the competition as the highest seeded performer, won the event with a leap of 4.50 m. He was the only competitor to clear the 4.35 m and the 4.5 m (14'9") heights.
In the heptathlon, the Pioneers took 6th, 7th, and 8th. Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 6th with 3,688 points. He scored 637 points in the 1,000 with a time of 3:02.79 and scored 576 points in the pole vault with a leap of 3.85 m. Alex Brown (Wellsville) scored 3,675 points in the competition to earn 7th. He recorded his most points in the 1,000 with a run of 3:00.38 (661 points). Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 8th with 3,597 points. He scored 636 points in the high jump with a leap of 1.81 m.
All three are now in the top ten in Alfred State history. Berry is 6th all-time, Brown 7th, and Ruebenstahl is 8th. Berry's performance was 149 points higher than a performance at Brockport earlier in the season.
In the weight throw, the blue & gold took 7th and 8th. Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) was 7th with a toss of 15.60 m while Anders Presthus (Lansing) was 8th with a mark of 15.17 m.
The track season moves outdoors in a couple weeks when the blue & gold travel to California of of Pennsylvania on March 24th.
