Track Shines at Allegany County Classic

The Alfred State outdoor track & field team had several strong performances as they competed at the Allegany County Classic at Houghton College on Tuesday afternoon. In total the team won 11 events on the day.

Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) continued his impressive freshmen campaign with three victories in throwing events. In the shot put he won with a toss of 13.64 m while Anders Presthus (Lansing) was 2nd (13.10 m). He won the hammer throw with a throw of 43.88 m followed by teammates Presthus (40.44 m), and Dylan Perlino's (Holland) mark of 38.19 m. In the discus he won with a mark of 45.89 m followed by Perlino (39.52 m) and Presthus (38.86 m).

In the javelin, Presthus took home the top spot with a throw of 38.18 m. Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 2nd (36.53 m), and Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 3rd (34.80 m). In the event the Pioneers took the top seven spots.

The Pioneers took the top five spots in the 1,500. Austin Demberg (Westtown/Minisink Valley) won in 4:38.63. Michael Girard (Phoenix) was 2nd in 4:44.44, Ryan Lohr (West Seneca) was 3rd in 4:44.61, Shawn Rutledge (Watkins Glen) was 4th in 4:49.89, and Joe Krestschmar (Phoenix, AZ) was 5th in 4:50.92

Berry won the 110 hurdles in 18.21, Ryan MacDonald (Johnson City) won the 400 hurdles in 1:15.17, Joe Richardson (Geneva) won the triple jump with a leap of 12.26 m, and Nicholas Brown (Wellsville) won the high jump with a leap of 1.67. The 4x400 relay team of Eric Zamor (New York/Ramapo), Chadwick Ekeigwe (Spring Valley/Ramapo), Nate Robertson (Hamburg), and Caleb Boyce-Wright (Cheektowaga/John Kennedy) won in 3:45.75.

Other top finishes included:

  • The 4 x 100 relay team of Jhamel Cohen (Brooklyn/South Shore), Joe Richardson, Ekeigwe, and Eric Zamor (New York/Ramapo) finished 2nd in 46.17
  • Ruebenstahl was 2nd in the pole vault (3.90 m).
  • Girard was 2nd in the 800 (2:27.42) while Jesse Stevens (Hamburg) was 3rd (2:28.16)
  • Mandel Green (Rochester/Eastridge) was 3rd in the 100 (12.20).
  • In the long jump, Isiah Richardson (Geneva) was 3rd (5.66 m) and Nicholas Brown (Wellsville) was 4th (5.43 m).
  • Zamor was 4th in the 200 in 24.13

Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) led the way for the women's team. She was 2nd in the 100 hurdles in 19.83. and was tied for 2nd in the high jump (1.38 m). She tied teammate Emily Brigman (Lancaster) in the high jump. Fiore was also 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 23.88 m while Chloe Cox (Tucson, AZ) was 3rd (22.39 m).

The 4x400 relay team of Dominique Shirley, Shannon Shirley, Sophie Gonzalez, and Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) won in 4:56.07 while The 4x100 relay team of Shannon Shirley, Dominique Shirley, Gonzalez, and Alexis Carrington (Manhattan/NYC iSchool) finished 2nd in 56.68.

Carrington was 2nd in the 100 in 14.55 while Logan Thierman (Portville) was 3rd in 14.65, Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) was 3rd in the 800 (2:48.55), and Hannah Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) was 2nd in the shot put (9.23 m).

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to the Slippery Rock Invitational. The first event is slated to start at 9 a.m. (please note change of schedule from original schedule - the team was originally scheduled to go to Westminster)
