Bio

Tim Giagios has been named the head coach of the Alfred State track & field and cross country program. He will also continue to serve as the Pioneers strength and conditioning coach.

Prior to joining Alfred State, Giagios held coaching positions at Nazareth College (Rochester, NY), SUNY Brockport (Brockport, NY), and Gates Chili High School (Rochester, NY) from 2005-2017. 

  • During his time at Nazareth, he was responsible for designing the strength training for the Track & Field/Cross Country program, which produced ten NCAA DIII qualifiers, seven All Americans, and one National Champion. He also coached pole vault, short sprints, and hurdles for the program. While at Nazareth he served as the Strength & Conditioning coach to several other teams and conducted a speed, conditioning, and plyometric class. Of the teams he trained, three were Empire 8 Conference Champions and five qualified for the NCAA DIII Tournament – with the Women's Soccer team reaching the Sweet Sixteen in 2014.
  • While at Brockport, Giagios was the Sprints and Hurdles Coach for the Track & Field Program. He was responsible for all aspects of the group's training. During his tenure, his event group had eight NCAA DIII Qualifiers, 17 All-Conference selections, and one Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the year. He was also a part of three team conference titles.
  • Giagios began coaching at Gates Chili High School, serving as a football and track & field coach.

In college, Giagios was a scholarship athlete on the Track & Field team at the University at Buffalo from 2000-2003. He finished his collegiate career at Buffalo State College (2003-2005) where he was a two-time individual conference champion, and six-time All-Conference selection in Track & Field. Off the Track, he was the Vice President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, a SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, and graduated with the Buffalo State Student-Athlete Top Honor.

Giagios is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CSCS) and also holds as USA Track & Field Level 1 Coaching certification. He has a B.S. from Buffalo State College in Health & Wellness, with a concentration in Adult Fitness, and a Minor in Coaching.

Director of Athletics Jason Doviak is excited to to have join the department on a full-time basis. "Tim's experience as a track & field student-athlete and coach prepared him very well for this role. He brings passion and enthusiasm to work every day and our student-athletes have responded well to his training programs. He now has the ability to work with our student-athletes daily and I am eager to see the results."
