The Alfred State women's basketball team defeated Ithaca College JV 67-61 to earn their 3rd straight victory and improve to 8-2 on the year.
Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) recorded her 7th straight double-double leading all scorers with 28 points (12 for 26) and 20 rebounds. Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) finished with 11 points and five assists and Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) came off the bench and had 10 points, five assists, and five rebounds.
Christie Bonacci led Ithaca with 20 points while Keri Steele and Ashley Chanatry each had 10 points.
Alfred led 28-23 at half but the Bombers never quit closing the gap to one but never taking the lead in the 2nd half. The Lady Pioneers held a 51 to 39 advantage on the boards and shot 38.6% from the field.
The blue & gold travel to the Onondaga CC Tournament this weekend where they will take on Sullivan County CC in their first round match-up at 3 p.m. Onondaga and Ithaca JV play in the other opening round game at 1 p.m.
