Fanning Leads Lady Pioneer Romp

Karley Fanning (Bishop Kearney) scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Alfred State women's basketball team downed Genesee CC 81-35 in a Region III Division II contest.  The Lady Pioneers improve to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in RIII DII play.

The blue & gold led by only ten, 30-20 at halftime but dominated the 2nd half outscoring the Lady Cougars 51 to 15 in the 2nd.  Key to the success was the Lady Pioneers domination on the boards.  They outrebounded GCC 75 to 41 including 36 to 13 on the offensive boards.

Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) added 17 points and 11 rebounds while Sally Santiago (Bronx/Our Lady of Good Counsel) added nine.  Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) added 8 points and 11 rebounds while Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) and Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) each netted eight points.

Nanase Akagami led Genesee with 15 points.

Alfred State has a few days off before heading to Jamestown CC for a 1 p.m. tip-off with the Jayhawks.
