Lady Pioneers Win Nail Biter

The Alfred State women's basketball team won a nail biter 58-57 over Jamestown CC in a Region III Division II battle. The Lady Pioneers are now 12-6 on the year and 4-1 in regional play.
The Lady Pioneers led 32-23 at half but the Lady Jayhawks battled back and grabbed the lead with five minutes left. Alfred pounded the post with Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) to gain back the lead back. JCC had a chance to win the game in the final seconds but Karley Fanning (Bishop Kearney) intercepted a pass to seal the victory for Alfred.
Witchella led the blue & gold with 26 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks. Fanning finished with 11, Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) chipped in three points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Alfred State heads to Erie CC on Tuesday for a rematch of the top two teams in Region III Division II. The Lady Kats won the first match-up 61-53 at the Orvis Activities Center. Opening tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Buffalo.
