The Alfred State women's basketball team celebrated Valentine's Day with an important 62-54 road victory over Mercyhurst North East. The Lady Pioneers are now winners of four straight and improve to 16-7 (6-2 Region III Division II) on the year.
Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) led the blue & gold with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks. Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) scored 15, Eleasha Wiggins (Bedford Academy) added 10 points and two steals, and Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) chipped in eight points and eight boards.
The Pioneers led 29-23 at halftime and led by 16, 51-35, late in the game before the Saints made a run to cut into the lead.
The Lady Pioneers have a few days off before hosting Genesee CC next Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
