Lady Pioneers #2 Seed for Regional Tournament

The Alfred State women's basketball team has earned the #2 seed in this week's Region III Division II Tournament.  The Lady Pioneers finished the regular season 18-7 record and have a 8-2 mark in RIII DII play.

With the #2 seed, the Lady Pioneers earned a bye in the first round and will play #3 Niagara CCC in the semifinals on Saturday.  The 3 p.m. contest at Erie CC's Flickenger Center will follow the #1 Erie CC vs. the winner of #4 Jamestown CC/#5 Genesee CC contest.

The championship game is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division II National Championships.

Alfred will enter the tournament with a six game winning streak.  They have been led by Haley Witchella (Oxford Academy) who has averaged 17.5 ppg, 14.4 rpg, and has recorded 101 blocks.  Karley Fanning (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) averaged 10.8 ppg while Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) averages 7.8.

The Lady Pioneers have outscored opponents by an average of 9.3 ppg and have held a 12 rebound per game advantage.
