The Alfred State women's basketball team registered their first victory of the 2013-14 season with a 69-34 victory over Penn College. The Lady Pioneers are now 1-1 on the year while the Lady Wildcats are 0-4.
Briana Meehan (Whitesville) led the blue & gold with 19 points while Marcedes Caver (Cleveland, OH) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Helena Covington (Elmira Free) also recored a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards.
The Lady Pioneers held a 74 to 46 advantage on the boards including a 32-12 edge on the offensive glass. Alfred also forced 40 turnovers.
Allison Van Metter, Chelsea Burger, and Margaret DeWire all finished with seven points to lead Penn College. The Wildcats shot just 22% from the field.
Alfred State opens up the home portion of their season on Tuesday when they host Nazareth at 6 p.m.
