Lady Pioneers Fall in Close One at Wells

The Alfred State women's basketball team could not overcome a slow 1st half and fell 68-62 to Wells College on Tuesday evening.  The Pioneers trailed 37-26 at half but cut the lead to two in the final minutes but couldn't get any closer.

The Express led by as many as 15 in the 1st half and led by 11 at the break.  Alfred spent the whole 2nd half cutting into the lead.  With 2:22 remaining, the Pioneers trailed 62-60 but the Express hit all six of their foul shots down the stretch to seal the victory.  Alfred State turned over the ball three times in the final two minutes.

Marcedes Caver (Cleveland, OH) led all scorers with 28 points.  She added six boards, three assists, and two steals.  Eleasha Wiggins (Brooklyn/Bedford Academy) chipped in eight points while Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) came off the bench and had seven points and seven rebounds.  

The Lady Pioneers shot 28.4% from the field and were slowed down by 24 turnovers.

Ashley Roser led the Express with a double-double finishing with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Lindsay Achzet chipped in 16 and Theresa Hernandez had 12.  Wells shot 41.7% from the field and connected on on 17 of 22 foul shot attempts to improve to 8-5 on the year.

Alfred State travels to Niagara CCC on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip-off with the Thunder Wolves.
