Lady Pioneers Can't Overcome Naz's Hot Shooting

Nazareth College hit 11 three-pointers and withstood Alfred State's 2nd half comeback attempt in a 73-55 victory on Thursday night.  The Golden Flyers were 11 for 26 from beyond the three-point arc on the day.

Julia Brew led Nazareth with 18 points on 6 three-pointers.  She was 5 for 6 from three in the 1st half and finished 6 for 13.  Lindsey Kelly added 15 points and eight boards while Hannah Runyon finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Marcedes Caver (Cleveland, OH) led the Lady Pioneers with 16 points and nine rebounds while Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) finished with 12.  Helena Covington (Elmira Free) chipped in nine and Briana Meehan (Whitesville) eight.

Nazareth led 42-19 at the half after shooting 51.7% from the field and 53.3% (8 for 15) from three.  The Lady Pioneers hung tough in the 2nd half and cut the lead to 11 (56-45) with under eight minutes left but couldn't get any closer.

The Golden Flyers shot 40% for the game and 42.3% from three.  They were 14 for 16 from the foul line and held a slight 41 to 39 advantage on the boards.

Alfred State shot 32.8% (19.4% in the 1st half and 46.7% in the 2nd half) for the game but was only 2 for 10 from three on the day.  

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they host Central Penn College at 1 p.m.
