Offensive Boards Lead Lady Pioneers past Central Penn

The Alfred State women's basketball team collected 32 offensive boards en route to a 87-60 victory over Central Penn College on a snowy Saturday afternoon.  The win propels the Lady Pioneers to 5-9 on the year.

Marcedes Caver (Cleveland, OH) had a monster night to lead Alfred State.  She finished with 25 points (5 for 9 from three) eight rebounds, and six assists.  Helena Covington (Elmira Free) added 14 points and nine rebounds while Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.  

Off the bench, Danielle Seratt (Avoca) and Steffanie Preston (Groton) each chipped in eight points.

USCAA scoring leader Jasmine Robinson led the Lady Knights with 29 points (5 for 10 from three) and 10 boards.  Desiree Lawrence chipped in 14 points and nine assists.

Alfred State jumped out a 8-0 lead in the opening minutes and never looked back.  They held a 42-30 at the break.

The Lady Pioneers shot 40.2% from the field including 51.3% in the 2nd half.  They hit six three-pointers and were 7 for 8 from the foul line.  On the boards, Alfred State held a 64 to 34 advantage including a 32 to 10 margin on the offensive glass.

Central Penn shot 35.1% from the field but was only 13 for 25 from the line.  They were slowed down by 21 turnovers.

Alfred State hits the road for the next two weeks.  They open up the road trip with on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. contest at Mercyhurst North East.
