Lady Saints Trip up Lady Pioneers

Mercyhurst North East outscored Alfred State 41-29 in the 2nd half en route to a 69-61 victory over the Lady Pioneers. The blue & gold are now 14-5 on the year.

Alfred State led by as many as six in the 1st half and led 32-28 at the break. With the game tied at 40-40, Mercyhurst North East went on a 16 to 8 run to take the lead for good. The Lady Pioneers cut it to 58-56 with just over five minutes left but were held to just five points the rest of the way.

Haley Witchella (Oxford) led the way with 21 points and 21 boards while Briana Meehan (Whitesville) finished with 17. The Lady Pioneers shot 34.8% from the field but was slowed down by 28 turnovers including 15 in the 2nd half.

Kayshanna Sampson led the Lady Saints with 26 points Brea Forney (11) and Jalin Steel (10) also finished in double figures. MNE shot 37.3% on the contest.

Alfred State will look to start another winning streak on Saturday when they battle Rochester (MI) College at 4 p.m.
