Meehan Nets 26 but Lady Pioneers Rally Falls Short

Briana Meehan (Whitesville) scored a game high 26 but the Alfred State women's basketball team could not overcome a twelve point 2nd half deficit and fell 69-65 to Finlandia (MI) University. 

Finlandia led 18-5 early but the Lady Pioneers clawed back into the game and tied it at 24-24. The Lady Lions held a slight 33-29 lead at the break. The two teams were tied at 35 when Finlandia went on a 21 to 9 run to lead 56-44 with just over ten minutes remaining. Alfred State made closed it to three, 68-65, with just over a minute left but couldn't get any closer.

Meehan was 7 for 17 from the field, 4 for 9 from three, and 8 for 10 from the foul line for her game high 26 points. She added seven rebounds. Haley Witchella (Oxford) finished with 11 points and 11 boards, Destiny Brito (Manhattan/Park West) finished with 10, and Jennifer Fedrick (Buffalo/Bennett) chipped in nine points and seven boards.

Marrisa Burke was one of four Lady Lions with double digits. She led the team with 21 points and seven boards. Kelsie Richards added 16, Brier Ruska-Pasanen had 11, and Paige Yoho had 10.

Alfred State returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Niagara CCC for a 5:30 battle with the Thunderwolves.
