Witchella Named USCAA All-American, Preston All-Academic

Alfred State senior Haley Witchella (Oxford) was named a 1st team USCAA All-American during the National Championships in March. Sophomore Steffanie Preston (Groton) was also honored during the championship banquet by being named to the USCAA All-Academic Team.

Witchella led the Lady Pioneers and the USCAA with 538 points (20.7 ppg) and 381 rebounds (14.7 rpg). She also was credited with 74 steals, 68 blocks, and 35 assists. She helped the Lady Pioneers to a 19-7 record and a trip to the USCAA DI Semifinals.

On the season, Witchella scored in double figures in all 26 games and recorded double-doubles in 22 contests. She had a monster game in the USCAA quarterfinals in which she scored 28 points and grabbed a new USCAA championship record 31 rebounds.

Witchella is tops on the Alfred State women's basketball scoring and rebounding lists. Her 538 points this year is 3rd best in a single season and her 381 rebounds is a new single season record.

Witchella is the second Lady Pioneer to earn All-American honors from the USCAA - Marcedes Caver was named a 2nd team All-American last season.

Preston , a sophomore guard who appeared in 25 games, earned All-Academic honors for earning above a 3.5 GPA in forensic science. Preston is one of 48
