Big 3rd Quarter Leads Lady Pioneers to 5th Straight

The Alfred State women's basketball team outscored Maine Presque Isle 27 to 9 in the 3rd quarter as they broke open a close game. The Lady Pioneers won their 5th straight, 70-53.

The blue & gold held a 33-32 lead at the half but came out of the break and was 11 for 15 from the field to take control of the game. Alfred State led by as many as 23, 64-41, early in the 4th quarter.

Kimberly Levee (Dansville) was 8 of 11 from the field and 4 of 5 from three, as she came off the bench and led Alfred State with 20 points. Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) continued her solid play of late with 14 points and 10 boards while Kelly Kane (Wellsville) chipped in 10. Steffanie Preston (Groton) and Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) both had eight points.

The Lady Pioneers shot 45.3% from the field and connected on five 3-pointers. They held a 50 to 28 advantage on the glass.

Janae Libby came off the bench and led the Owls with 15 pionts while Amanda Hotham and Katie Patenaude both chipped in 10. UMPI shot only 28.1% from the field but stayed in the contest with eight three pointers (8 for 30).

The Lady Pioneers close out the season on Sunday with a Noon contest at Maine Fort Kent.
