Pioneers Win Home Finale

The Alfred State women's basketball team won their third straight as they closed out the home portion of the regular season with a 61-44 victory over SUNY Delhi. The Lady Pioneers are now 13-7 on the season.

For the second straight day, Alfred State started off fast and never looked back. The Pioneers led 15-7 after the 1st quarter and held a 33-22 lead at halftime. Delhi cut into the lead in the 3rd but the blue & gold outscored the Broncos 21-10 in the final stanza to claim the victory.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) continued to be a force in the paint. She recorded a double-double with 27 points and 16 rebounds. She also chipped in five blocks and five steals. Kimberly Levee (Dansville) added 11 points, Minnie Robinson (Washington DC) added six points, six rebounds, and five assists, and Kelly Kane (Wellsville) added five points and eight boards.

The Lady Pioneers shot 34.7% from the field and connected on 7 of their 11 foul shot attempts. The team held a 60 to 47 rebounding advantage.

Samiaya Salley led the Broncos with 16 points while Sam Acuna added 10. Katie Herba finished with six points, 11 rebounds, and six steals. Delhi shot 24.6% fromt he field and hit only 9 of their 24 foul shot attempts.

Prior to the game, Robinson, Levee, Joselyn Johnson (Geneva), Steffanie Preston (Groton), and Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) were honored for their careers at Alfred State. Head Coach Gina Boyd was also presented with a basketball to commemorate her 400th victory.

The blue & gold head to Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest with Carlow University.
