The Alfred State women's basketball team got 34 points from their bench as they defeated Maine Fort Kent 59-47. The Pioneers outscored the Bengals 25 to 10 in the 2nd quarter to take the lead for good as they improved to 14-8 on the season.
Maine Fort Kent led 15-11 after the 1st quarter but the Pioneers started the 2nd quarter on a 15 to 2 run to grab the lead for good. They led 36-25 at the half and added to their lead in the 3rd by outscoring UMFK 16 to 12. The Bengals outscored Alfred State 10 to 7 in the 4th but never got closer than seven.
Kimberly Levee (Dansville) led the team with a double-double. She finished with 14 points and 11 boards. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) scored 11 points and Kelly Kane (Wellsville) chipped in 10 points and seven boards. Joselyn Johnson (Geneva) had a solid all-around game adding seven points, eight rebounds, and five steals.
The Lady Pioneers shot 34.4% from the field, 29.4% from three, and hit 50% of their foul shots. The team held a 44 to 33 advantage on the boards.
Ashley Sauri led UMFK with 18 points and nine rebounds while Maleini Janaki finished with 11 points and eight boards. The Bengals shot 32.1% from the field, 26.3% from three, and 40% from the charity stripe.
The blue & gold continue their weekend trip in Maine on Sunday when they battle Maine Presque Isle. Opening tip is slated for Noon.
