Big 2nd Quarter Lifts Washington Adventist

Washington Adventist used a big 2nd quarter in a 63-48 victory over Alfred State on Saturday evening. The Shock improve to 13-9 on the season.

Alfred State played a solid 1st quarter and led 14-10 after the first ten minutes. With the game tied at 19-19, the Shock ended the half on a 17 to 8 run to build a 36-27 lead. WAU pushed the lead to 53-34 after the 3rd quarter before the Pioneers fought back and got back into the game. The Pioneers cut the lead to nine, 55-46, with 2:58 remaining but couldn't get any closer. The Shock scored eight of the games last ten points to seal the victory.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) led the Pioeners with 19 points, nine rebounds, and six blocks while Kelsey Shaulis (South Seneca) chipped in 10. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) finished with seven and Janae Gibson (Bronx/Pelham Prep) had six points and six boards.

Aryanna Hutcherson led the Shock with 14 points while Grace Wallace came off the bench and finished with 12. Courtney Jenkins finished with 11 and Candice Berner had 10. 

The Shock shot 38.7% from the field, connected on nine of 27 three-point attempts and held the Pioneers to 33.3% shooting from the floor.

Prior to the game, Alfred State honored Bialecki for becoming the third women's basketball player to reach the 1,000 point plateau.

The blue & gold hit the road for their next three contests. They start the trip with a 8 p.m. contest at Hilbert on Wednesday.
