Pioneers Win Home Finale

The Alfred State women's basketball team used a big 2nd quarter as they hopped past SUNY Canton 64-46 on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers have now won three straight and are 9-12 on the season.

The Pioneers used a 9 to 2 run to close out the 1st quarter to grab the 13-6 lead. They outscored the Roos 22 to 7 in the 2nd quarter to build a 22-point halftime lead. They added to their lead and led by as many as 27 in the 3rd quarter. Canton cut into the lead in the 4th but could never get closer than 16.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) recorded another double-double finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks. Kelsey Shaulis (South Seneca) came off the bench and finished with 13 points and five assists. Janae Gibson (Bronx/Pelham Prep) had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. 

The Pioneers shot 55% (11 for 20) in their big 2nd quarter and finished the game shooting 39.7% for the season. On the boards, Alfred State held a 48 to 38 advantage.

Antanasia Chambers led the Roos (11-12) with 11 points and seven boards. Taylor Saltus chipped in seven points while Billie Rivenburgh and Jasmine Dixon each has six. Canton shot 33.3% from the field for the contest but was slowed down by 21 turnovers.

Prior to the game the coaching staff honored three players, Bialecki, Kelly Kane (Wellsville), and Allison Danielak (Brockport), playing in their final home game. 

The blue & gold wrap up the season next Saturday when they head to Canton for a rematch with the Roos.
