Spartans Use Big 2nd Quarter to Down Pioneers

D'Youville connected on five three-pointers and outscored Alfred State 21-7 in the 2nd quarter as they defeated the Pioneers 65-50.

Alfred State led 15-14 at the end of the 1st quarter. With the game tied at 20-20 with five minutes left in half, the Spartans went on a 15-2 run to take a 35-22 lead into the break. The Pioneers tried to cut into the lead into the 2nd half but couldn't fight all the way back. D'Youville outscored the Pioneers 30-28 in the 2nd half.

Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) led the blue & gold with 16 points and nine rebounds while Emily Kelley (Andover) finsihed with 11 points and five blocks. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) added nine points. 

Kelsey Carpenter came off the bench and led the Spartans with 14 points and nine boards. She connected on three of the team's eight 3-pointers in the game. Six other Spartans scored at least six points in the game. Danielle Hore was huge off the bench adding six points and a game high 14 boards. D'Youville (4-3, 2-0 AMCC) got 27 points off their bench and outrebounded the Pioneers 55 to 34 in the game. 

The Pioneers are back on the court on Monday when they host Utica for a 6 p.m. contest.
