The Alfred State women's basketball team could not rally all the way back in a 64-58 at Medaille on Wednesday evening.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 6-2 early but the Mavericks answered back and led 20-10 after the first ten minutes. The Pioneers outscored Medaille 15-9 in the 2nd quarter and trailed 29-25 at the break. Medaille came out hot in the 2nd half and built their lead to 55-33 early in the 4th quarter before Alfred State put together a furious rally. The blue & gold cut the lead to 64-58 in the final minute but couldn't any closer. ASC outscored Medaille 25-12 in the final ten minutes.
Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) and Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) had big nights for the Pioneers. Pettit had a double-double with 25 points and 18 rebounds while Shaulis connected on six 3-pointers and had 18 points.
Morgan Kennedy led the Mavs with 19 points while Erin Hardick finished with 18.
The Pioneers host Pitt Greensburg on Saturday at 3 p.m.
