Team Effort Leads Alfred State Past Panthers

Alfred State started off fast and never trailed as they defeated Pitt Bradford 66-51 to complete the season sweep of the Panthers. Four Pioneers finsihed in double figures in the contest.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game but the Panthers fought back and trailed only by three, 21-18, after the first ten minutes. The Pioneers added to their lead by outscoring UPB 14-9 in the 2nd quarter but the Panthers answered back by outscoring ASC 14-9 in the 3rd to send the contest into the final ten minutes with only a three-point deficit, 44-41. Alfred State started the final stanza on a 9-3 run and was able to keep adding to it and built a 15-point lead in the final minutes of the game.

Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) led the team with 20 points (14 in the 1st half) while Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Emily Kelley (Andover) had 11 points, six boards, four blocks, and three steals while Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) chipped in 10 points and eight assists. 

Jasmin Miller led the Panthers with 14 points while Ashley Hall came off the bench and finished with 13. Jenna Hicks added 11.

The Pioneers were 9 for 16 from the floor in the 1st and 8 for 16 in the 4th. They finished the contest shooting 38.5%. UPB was 15 for 64 from the floor and turned the ball over 14 times. 

The blue & gold have a week off before heading to Hilbert for a 8 p.m. rematch with the Hawks.
